Cash 4 Cars trades out of a popular yard where we offer a “Scrap my Car” and Scrap my Van” service to customers owning end-of-life vehicles in need of disposal. Car recycling is at the heart of what we do as a company and, because this is a tightly-regulated and multi-stage process, we are responsible for recycling up to 95% of the salvageable parts and metals that make up a scrap car or van.
Choose us for car recycling services in the following areas:
Gosport | Hayling Island | Portsmouth | Southampton | The South of England
There are multiple steps to the car recycling process, and these are followed meticulously to protect the environment, keep the ecosystem protected, and to leave our customers and clients feeling satisfied.
The processes at our yard include:
Depollution
This is the first step of the car recycling process, where we use a set of approved procedures to drain fuels and fluids from an ELV. We also remove the battery, the catalytic converter and the tyres, and Cash 4 Cars recovers the gases from the air conditioning system.
Parts containing mercury are removed and airbags are neutralised.
Dismantling and Recovery
Following depollution, the usable parts are stripped from ELVs and, after a check on their condition, are made available for sale in the automotive aftermarket. Everything from engines to body panels are dismantled from the vehicle, cleaned, then sold off as used parts.
This helps us to sustain higher car recycling rates.
Shredding
What is left of an end-of-life vehicle undergoes compaction in high-powered hydraulic presses prior to materials being processed in an industrial shredder. The purpose of this step is to break everything down into manageable consignments which we move on for repurposing.
These materials are typically sold to scrap metal aftermarkets.
Separation
Material separation is also part of the car recycling process and we use magnets to separate ferrous and non-ferrous metal. The typical car’s weight is made up of around 65% steel and this is recyclable many times over. For non-ferrous metals, like aluminium and copper, we isolate these using innovations such as eddy current separators.
Vacuum systems separate materials like fabric, glass and plastic.
Repurposing
All materials derived from car recycling go to specialist facilities where scrap metals are melted and rolled into sheet form for use in construction or manufacturing. Plastics are made into polymers and tyres are shredded, and glass is ground for re-use in new products.
All residues are disposed of in line with environmental guidelines.
As you can see, Cash 4 Cars takes car recycling seriously and we do whatever we can to maintain government-led recycling rates. Just as importantly, we make sure all legal documentation is completed and sent to the DVLA so that scrap cars can be removed from databases.
With collections offered in Gosport, Hayling Island, Portsmouth and Southampton, as well as across the region, we provide a home for scrap cars, vans and motorcycles where they can be fully recycled.
